Valérie Chételat was born in Biel, Switzerland. Following studies in architecture, she diverged to photography and began working professionally in 1991.
Press and commercial photography have been her main focus. She has worked for the Bern Newspaper 'Der Bund' for the last decade and freelances for various magazines and publications.
Her own projects explore aspects of contemporary culture; documenting the customs and behaviours of urban society. The recently published photo book, 'Biel-Bienne: Neue Horizonte, bekannte Traditionen', features a selection of her current work along these themes.
For her photo essay of the international cycling race "Tour de Suisse", Valérie Chételat won the Swiss Press Photo 2009 Award in the sport category.
Valérie works predominantly in Switzerland and Australia.
